Overseas, Sony/Alcon’s The Garfield Movie has been a massive success, taking the No. 1 spot for Hollywood on both the domestic and international charts. The film has raked in an impressive $27.1M in 60 markets, bringing its worldwide total to $152.2M. The cat-astrophic yet lovable feline has taken the global box office by storm, with overseas markets seeing a mere 3% drop from the previous weekend.

In China, The Garfield Movie has been distributed by Stars Collective through China Film Group and Alibaba Pictures, resulting in an opening weekend of $8.2M. Within just two days, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of other popular animated movies like Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and Migration. New markets, such as Poland with $2.4M and Indonesia with $700K, have also contributed to the film’s success, with Poland showing a 45% increase compared to The Secret Life of Pets 2.

The film’s performance in holdover markets has been equally impressive, with Germany seeing a 131% increase in earnings to reach a local total of $7.6M. The UK has also performed well, only dropping 5% in its second weekend for a cume of $8.1M. Mexico has grossed $19M so far, outpacing The Secret Life of Pets 2 by 9%. Malaysia has seen a 21% increase in its second weekend, reaching a cume of $1.5M, making it the fourth highest total for a Hollywood title in the market this year.

Warner Bros’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, after a lackluster debut, saw an uptick in international earnings with a $21M weekend in 77 markets. Despite a 38% drop from holdovers, the film’s overseas total now stands at $64.7M, with a global total of $114.4M. Notable holds were seen in Germany, Belgium, France, Brazil, Australia, and more. Korea, in particular, has been a standout market for the film, maintaining its No. 1 position and grossing $8.2M. The movie is set to release in China on June 7, marking the first installment of the franchise in the country.

The latest installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, continues to perform well with just a 28% drop from the previous weekend overseas. The film added $15.2M in 52 markets, bringing its international cume to $197.1M. Strong holds were seen in Germany, Brazil, Australia, France, Mexico, and more. The global total for the film now stands at $337.1M, with notable success in India, Colombia, Peru, and other countries.

Paramount’s IF

Paramount’s IF has also seen success at the overseas box office, with another $11M earned in 69 markets. The John Krasinski film has now reached a worldwide total of $138M after its third weekend. Impressively, the film saw just an 8% dip in overseas earnings, with upcoming releases in Japan and China on the horizon.
