The Success of Jennifer Lopez in Streaming and Film

Jennifer Lopez has once again proven her star power by maintaining the number one spot on Netflix’s top 10 film chart with her sci-fi film Atlas. The movie has garnered close to 60 million global views and 119.4 million hours viewed. This marks her fourth number one streaming movie in the past two years, following the success of The Mother and This Is Me Now on Netflix, as well as Shotgun Wedding on Prime Video. Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez’s producing partner, praised her achievements and highlighted the fact that she has achieved this success as a woman of color, a feat that few male stars have accomplished.

Despite her tremendous success, there are still those who choose to ignore the truth and create a false narrative through gossip and internet bullying. Goldsmith-Thomas emphasized that Lopez is not only a talented actress and producer but also a kind and loving individual who deserves recognition for her hard work and dedication. Lopez’s streaming success with Atlas comes on the heels of an unplugged summer concert tour, where she took time off to be with her family and close friends.

Atlas has become the second-most-watched title of Lopez’s on Netflix, following the action-packed movie The Mother, which is one of the streamer’s top 10 most-watched movies of all time with 136.4 million global views. Atlas garnered 28.2 million views in its first two days on Netflix and added another 31.6 million global views in the subsequent week. The movie, directed by Brad Peyton, follows an AI soldier on a mission to end humanity to stop war. It has also achieved top 10 rankings in 93 countries over the past two weeks.

Viewers have shown strong support for Atlas, with an impressive 80% completion rate on Netflix, matching the performance of The Mother. Lopez’s co-star Simu Liu praised her for her role as a producer and her commitment to representation and diversity in the film industry. Additionally, Lopez’s romantic comedy This Is Me Now: A Love Story received critical acclaim, hitting the number one spot on Prime Video with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 75%. Her film Shotgun Wedding also found success, becoming the top title on Prime Video upon its release and one of the service’s most-streamed movies in 2023.

In addition to her streaming success, Lopez’s stripper crime thriller Hustlers became her highest-grossing live-action opening at the domestic box office, earning $33.1 million and $104.9 million overall. The movie received critical acclaim and earned Lopez nominations at various prestigious award shows, including The Critics Choice, Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards, and SAG Awards. The success of Lopez in both streaming and the box office further solidifies her status as a powerhouse in the entertainment industry.
